Our Energy Plan

Recent events have shown us the National Energy Market is not operating in South Australia’s interest. That’s why South Australia is taking charge of its energy future.

Under our plan, South Australia will become more self-reliant for its power. More of our power will be sourced, made and controlled in South Australia. Our plan will also improve reliability, drive down prices and create local jobs.

Our plan will do this by:

  • building Australia’s largest battery to store energy from the wind and sun - part of a new $150 million renewable energy fund;
  • building a state-operated gas power plant to produce back-up power during periods of high demand;
  • introducing strong powers returning control of the market to South Australians;
  • setting a new energy security target for South Australia to use more secure, locally-made, cleaner energy;
  • incentivising companies to invest in South Australian gas for our energy use;
  • and using the Government’s electricity contract to attract new electricity   generation, increasing competition and putting downward pressure on prices.

Most importantly, our plan will put South Australians first. Our plan allows for South Australia to take charge of its energy future to deliver South Australian energy for South Australians.

I have included below a summary of Our Energy Plan which further details our investments in securing South Australia’s energy future. If you would like a full copy of our plan, please contact my office on 8327 0900 or at kaurna@parliament.sa.gov.au.
